The Mavericks Compete in Brookings This Weekend

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha track and field team travels to Brookings, S.D. for the Jim Emmerich Alumni Invitational on Saturday Jan. 23. Both track and field events begin at noon.
The Mavericks look to continue their improvement after the Dakota Realty Alumni Meet at South Dakota on Jan. 16.
Freshman Lauren Houston, sophomore Stephanie Ahrens, and sophomore Kayla Sabotin all placed second in their respective events to lead the Mavericks last weekend.
Houston finished with a personal best in the 400 meters with a time of 58.88 seconds. That time puts her in seventh in the Summit League this season.
Ahrens had a jump of 5-06 ½ in the high jump and Sabotin finished with a time of 2:23.75 in the 800 to continue their strong seasons.
Houston also anchored the 4x400 relay team. The team finished with a time of 4:06.71 and it was good for a third place finish. The team included Daylee Olson, Mackenzie Zach and Alyssa Thavenet.
Other Mavericks notched bests in the field events for this season. Noni Henderson had a season best jump of 17-00 ½ in the long jump which was good for sixth. Taleah Williams had a personal best leap of 34-06 ¾ in the triple jump placing her seventh in the event.
After the Jim Emmerich Alumni Invitational, the Mavericks go to the Jack Jennett Invitational at Northern Iowa on Jan. 29.
