
Ahrens Tops the High Jump Again

BROOKINGS, S.D. – The Omaha track and field team set 13 season bests on the first day of competition at the SDSU Classic on Friday.
Sophomore Stephanie Ahrens led the way, winning the high jump again. She topped her Summit League best high jump with a leap of 5-10. Her mark was a season best and put her into a tie for second place in the all-time UNO record book.
Also in high jump, junior Taryn Derickson finished in fifth with a jump of 5-5, a season best.
In other field events, freshman Maddy Partridge finished second in the weight throw with a personal best throw of 47-3 ¾. Sophomore Lauren Doeschot also set a personal record with a throw of 44-11 which was good for sixth place.
Sophomore Noni Henderson set a season best in the long jump with a leap of 17-7 ½.
In track events, freshman Mads Nelson and junior Kourtney Osentoski raced to personal bests in the 3,000 meters. Nelson ran the event in a time of 11:05.84, and Osentoski came in at 11:24.35.
All three Maverick runners in the 5,000 meters set personal records. Sophomore Alyssa Averhoff had a time of 18:12.14, senior Avery Schmidt finished with a time of 19:09.21, and freshman Annie Catania ran a time of 20:24.96.
Also all three Omaha sprinters in the 200 meters set personal highs. Sophomore Tschida Johnson finished with a time of 26.94, freshman Mackenzie Zach ran a time of 26.96, and freshman Daylee Olson finished in 27.22.
The second day of competition begins Saturday at 9:30 a.m.
