
Houston Races to Meet Record in the 800

BROOKINGS, S.D. – Freshman Lauren Houston won the 800 meters at the SDSU Classic on Saturday in record-breaking fashion, part of weekend of high achievement for the Omaha track & field team.
Not only did Houston set a personal best, she set the meet record with a time of 2:09.99. Her time was also good for second in the Summit League this season and second in school history.
Also in the 800, junior Alyssa Thavenet set a personal best and finished seventh with a time of 2:16.16.
In other track events, sophomore Alyssa Averhoff, coming off of a personal best performance in the 5,000 meters yesterday, finished in seventh in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:30.98.
The string of bests continued in the field events. In the triple jump, sophomore Noni Henderson set a season best with a jump of 36-5 ¾. Also in the triple jump, freshman Taleah Williams notched a personal record with a leap of 36-3 ½.
A day after placing first in the high jump, sophomore Stephanie Ahrens ran a career best 9.10 in the 60 meter hurdles.
In the weight throw, freshman Anna Edet set a personal best with a toss of 46-2 ¾.
Overall, the Mavericks set 15 personal records and four season bests during the weekend.
Omaha returns to Lincoln, Neb. for the Nebraska Tune-Up on Friday, Feb. 19. It will be the Mavericks' last regular season indoor meet before they compete in the Summit League Indoor Championship on Feb. 26-27.
