Houston Making Tracks for the Mavs

BROOKINGS, S.D. – Freshman Lauren Houston is leaving opponents in the dust during her first season for Omaha. Her efforts have her climbing up the Summit League leaderboard as well.
Houston finished in first place in the 800 meters this weekend at the Jim Emmerich/Alumni Invitational in Brookings, S.D. Her time of 2:13.38 was good for a personal best and put her in third place in the Summit League in the event.
Last weekend, Houston finished second in the 400 meters at the Dakota Realty Alumni Meet and her time placed her in eighth in the Summit League.
In other track events, sophomore Alyssa Averhoff raced into the Omaha record books in the 3,000 meters. Her time of 10:29.89 put her in 10th place all-time for the Mavericks, as well as a personal record.
In field events, sophomore Stephanie Ahrens continued her strong season in the high jump. Her leap of 5-7 placed her third in the event.
In the long jump, sophomore Noni Henderson finished eighth with a jump of 16-10 ¾.
Next week, the Mavericks travel to Cedar Falls, Iowa for the Jack Jennett Invitational on Jan. 29.
