Mavericks Welcome Vermont To Omaha

OMAHA, Neb. - The Omaha hockey team returns home for the first of three straight home series, entertaining Vermont of Hockey East on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 21-22. Each game begins at 7:07 p.m. from Baxter Arena. This will be the Catamounts' first visit to Omaha.
The Teams
The Mavericks are 2-0-0 this season after capturing the Brice Alaska Goal Rush tournament last weekend in Fairbanks, Alaska. The Mavericks posted a 3-1 win over Alaska Anchorage in the opening game and then bested host Alaska, 4-3 in overtime, in game two. The Mavericks start their second season in Baxter Arena against Vermont on Friday. They were 10-8-0 at home last year. They also are 2-0-0 all-time against the Catamounts after two wins in Burlington last season.
Vermont is coming off a bye week following a season-opening home-and-home split with Clarkson of ECAC Hockey. UVM earned a 5-2 win at Clarkson in the opener, but the Golden Knights picked up a 3-2 win at Gutterson Fieldhouse the following night. The Catamounts were 9-9-1 on the road last season.
The Coaches
Dean Blais is in his eighth year as the head coach of the Mavericks, having led UNO to three 20-win campaigns in that time. The 1973 graduate of Minnesota has posted a record of 393-231-58 (.619) in his career as a head coach and has guided the Mavericks to a mark of 131-116-25 (.528).
Blais is a two-time Spencer Penrose Memorial Award winner as the Division I coach of the year and a four-time winner of the WCHA's Coach of the Year Award. He spent 10 years as head coach at North Dakota where he led UND to national championships in 1997 and 2000. He is joined by associate head coach Mike Gabinet, a former UNO defenseman and a 2004 graduate, and assistant coach Leigh Mendelson, a 2015 Omaha graduate and former volunteer assistant coach for the team (2014-16).
Kevin Sneddon is in his 14th season as head coach of Vermont and his 19th season overall. The 1992 graduate of Harvard is 205-227-63 all-time at UVM. He is assisted by Kevin Patrick and Kyle Wallack.
