Mavericks Host No. 5 UMass Lowell

OMAHA, Neb - The Omaha hockey team plays the middle series of three straight at home this weekend, welcoming No. 5 UMass Lowell of Hockey East on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 28-29. Each game begins at 7:07 p.m. from Baxter Arena.
The Teams
The Mavericks are 2-1-1 this season after a tie and a loss to visiting Vermont last weekend. The Mavericks are 0-1-1 at home this season after posting a 10-8-0 mark at home last year. They also are 2-0-0 all-time against the River Hawks with the last meeting more than seven years ago.
UMass Lowell is 3-1-2 this season and is coming off a split of two games last weekend. On Friday, the River Hawks beat St. Lawrence, 5-2, but then dropped a 4-3 decision to visiting Clarkson. The River Hawks are 2-0-0 on the road this season after posting two wins at Colorado College on Oct. 14-15.
The Coaches
Dean Blais is in his eighth year as the head coach of the Mavericks, having led UNO to three 20-win campaigns in that time. The 1973 graduate of Minnesota has posted a record of 393-232-59 (.618) in his career as a head coach and has guided the Mavericks to a mark of 131-117-26 (.526).
Blais is a two-time Spencer Penrose Memorial Award winner as the Division I coach of the year and a four-time winner of the WCHA's Coach of the Year Award. He spent 10 years as head coach at North Dakota where he led UND to national championships in 1997 and 2000. He is joined by associate head coach Mike Gabinet, a former UNO defenseman and a 2004 graduate, and assistant coach Leigh Mendelson, a 2015 Omaha graduate and former volunteer assistant coach for the team (2014-16).
Norm Bazin in is his sixth season at UMass Lowell, his ninth overall as a head coach. The 1994 graduate of UML is 165-89-27 all-time and 127-58-20 in his time in Lowell. He is assisted by Cam Ellsworth and Andy Jones.
