Blais Names Captains For 2016-17 Season

OMAHA, Neb. – Head hockey coach Dean Blais announced today that senior Justin Parizek will serve as captain this season, and juniors Luc Snuggerud and Tyler Vesel will serve as alternate captains.
“All three of these players have been leaders on the ice and in the locker room for us since joining the program,” said Blais. “Each will be wearing a letter for us for the first time, and they will be great role models for the younger players on our roster.”
Parizek has played in 100 career games for the Mavericks, scoring 22 goals and 33 assists for 55 points. The native of Lakeville, Minn. is UNO's second leading returning scorer from last year's team after picking up eight goals and a career-best 20 assists in 35 games. He is second in career scoring among active Mavericks after classmate Austin Ortega.
Snuggerud led all UNO defensemen in points last year with four goals and 14 assists for 18 points in 35 games. The native of Eden Prairie, Minn. has appeared in 74 games in his UNO career, earning six goals and 28 assists for 34 points. He was a member of the NCHC All-Conference Rookie Team in 2015.
Vesel tied Snuggerud for fifth in team scoring last season with six goals and 12 assists for 18 points in 35 games. The native of Rochester, Minn. enters the season with 14 goals and 27 assist for 41 points in 74 career games.
The Mavericks open the 2016-17 season with an exhibition game against Alberta on Saturday, Oct. 8 at 7:07 p.m. at Baxter Arena.
