Ortega, Snuggerud Named NCHC Players of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The National Collegiate Hockey Conference announced today that senior Austin Ortega and junior Luc Snuggerud were named offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively.
These are the first player of the week awards for the Mavericks this season as well as the fourth for Ortega and the first for Snuggerud.
Ortega tied for the team scoring lead at Miami, earning four points in Omaha's first sweep of the season and first sweep at Miami. On Friday, Ortega had an assist and was a team-best +3 as the Mavericks rallied for a 6-4 win. The following night, the native of Escondido, Calif. had two goals, including one shorthanded, and an assist as UNO completed the sweep with a 6-2 win. By virtue of his performance, Ortega moved into a tie for second in NCHC scoring with 15 points this season and he's also tied for second in the conference with nine goals. He has registered points in six straight games (6-5-11) to set a new team season high.
Snuggerud tied for the team scoring lead at Miami with two goals and two assists for four points. On Friday, he had the primary assist on the game-winning goal as the Mavericks erased a 4-1 deficit to win, 6-4. He finished the night +1 and had a blocked shot. The next night, the native of Eden Prairie, Minn. scored two goals, including the game winner, and had another assist as the Mavericks picked up a 6-2 win. In that game, he also was +1. Snuggerud's second goal on Saturday gave him a new career high for goals in a season (5), and he is now in a five-way tie for fourth in NCHC defenseman scoring with nine points.
The Mavericks are home this weekend to host No. 2 Minnesota Duluth on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 18-19. Both games begin at 7:07 p.m. at Baxter Arena, and tickets are on sale at the arena box office and through Ticketmaster.
