Omaha Announces 2017 Schedule

OMAHA, Neb. ā The Omaha softball program has released its 2017 season schedule, head coach D.J. Sanchez announced Monday.Ā The Mavericks' regular-season schedule includes 53 games, including 13 home contests at Westside Field at Westbrook.
Six tournaments open the season and send the Mavericks from coast to coast starting Feb. 10-12 at Northern Iowa's Ramada UNI-Dome Classic.Ā UNO then travels to Stanford's Nike Invitational (Feb. 17-19), Georgia State's I75 Challenge (Feb. 24-26), Southern Utah's Saint George Red Desert Classic (March 3-5), the Oklahoma Tournament (March 10-12) and Kansas' Rock Chalk Challenge (March 17-19).
Omaha will open the home season versus New Mexico State for a single game on Tuesday, March 21 and play a single-game at Nebraska on Wednesday, March 22.
Omaha's Summit League home opener is set for the weekend of March 25-26, against Fort Wayne to start a six-game homestand that includes a non-conference single-game against Drake on March 29 and a three-game league series against Western Illinois.
UNO's next 10 games are on the road, with a three-game conference series against South Dakota (April 8-9).Ā The Mavericks will then play a non-conference game at Iowa State on April 12.Ā Omaha then heads to Brookings, S.D. for a weekend series with South Dakota State (April 22-23).Ā The final series away from home is a three-game set at IUPUI (April 29-30).
Omaha plays its final five games of the regular season at home.Ā UMKC visits for a midweek doubleheader on May 2.Ā The regular-season concludes with a three-game set against the reigning Summit League champions North Dakota State (May 5-6).Ā The 2017 Summit League Championship, which takes the top six teams in the regular-season standings, is set for May 10-13 in Fargo, N.D.
Over the regular-season, UNO will play in seven states against schools from 17 other Division I conferences.Ā The schedule has three opponents from the Big 12 and two from the Big 10, Big Sky, Missouri Valley, PAC-12 and WAC.Ā Also on the docket are teams from the AAC, ACC, Big South, Big West, Horizon League, MAC, Mountain West, Ohio Valley Conference, SEC, Sun Belt and West Coast Conference.Ā Four opponents ā LSU, North Dakota State, Oklahoma and Tulsa ā played in the 2016 NCAA Tournament with the Sooners winning the national title.Ā
Sanchez enters her first season leading the Mavericks.Ā Omaha returns nine letterwinners from the 2016 team, including first-team All-Summit honoree Lia Mancuso and second-team members Nicole Warren and Laura Roecker.
