Mavericks Finish Road Trip at St. Cloud State

The No. 20/RV Omaha hockey team finishes its six-game road trip this weekend, visiting No. 17/RV St. Cloud State for games on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 9-10. Friday's game begins at 7:37 p.m., and Saturday's game starts at 7:07 p.m. from the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn.
The Teams
Omaha is 8-5-3 this season and 3-3-0-0/0 in the NCHC, putting it in fifth place. The Mavericks are coming off a 3-3 tie and a 7-4 win at Wisconsin last weekend. The Mavericks are 6-0-2 on the road or at neutral sites this season. UNO trails the all-time series with St. Cloud State, 9-15-2, and is 3-10-1 in St. Cloud. The Mavericks have just one win against the Huskies in the last eight meetings (1-7-0). UNO is 5-3-2 in its last 10 games.
St. Cloud State enters the weekend with a record of 7-6-1 overall and a mark of 3-4-1-0/0 in the NCHC, good for fourth place. The Huskies are 3-4-0 this season at home with all four losses coming in NCHC play. They also are 5-4-1 in their last 10 games.
The Coaches
Dean Blais is in his eighth year as the head coach of the Mavericks, having led UNO to three 20-win campaigns in that time. The 1973 graduate of Minnesota has posted a record of 399-236-61 in his career as a head coach and has guided the Mavericks to a mark of 137-121-28.
Blais is a two-time Spencer Penrose Memorial Award winner as the Division I coach of the year and a four-time winner of the WCHA's Coach of the Year Award. He spent 10 years as head coach at North Dakota where he led UND to national championships in 1997 and 2000. He is joined by associate head coach Mike Gabinet, a former UNO defenseman and a 2004 graduate, and assistant coach Leigh Mendelson, a 2015 Omaha graduate and former volunteer assistant coach for the team (2014-16).
Bob Motzko is in his 12th season as head coach at St. Cloud State. The 1987 graduate of SCSU is 242-170-43 all-time at his alma mater. He is assisted by Mike Gibbons and Garrett Raboin.
