
Shaw Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District Team

OMAHA, Neb. ā Omaha women's basketball junior Mikaela Shaw has been named to the 2015-16 CoSIDA Academic All-District 7 Team for her outstanding athletic and academic achievements, as announced by CoSIDA Thursday.

The 2015-16 Academic All-District Women's Basketball team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. The teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. District 7 includes schools from Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, and Wyoming.
Shaw holds a 3.81 grade point average as a Biology major. The Deweese, Neb. native leads Omaha with 18.2 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. Her scoring average ranks first in the Summit League, while her rebounding average is second.Ā This season she has been in double-figures every game and has had nine double-doubles.Ā Shaw also leads the Mavericks with 72 assists and 32 steals. Earlier this season, she become only the 18th player in UNO history to reach the 1,000 career point and 500 career rebound marks. She earned Academic All-League laurels as a sophomore and is a two-time Summit League Academic Honor Roll member.
"Mikaela has worked tirelessly both in the classroom and on the court to be an exceptional student-athlete," said head coach Brittany Lange.Ā "I could not be more proud of her commitments to our program and UNO and carrying the torch of our strong academic reputation and standards. We are very happy for Mikaela that her accomplishments can be recognized and respect the integrity in which she approaches her academics, sport, and future." Ā
Shaw will now be in the running for Academic All-America honors, which will be awarded later in the season after another vote from CoSIDA members.

Shaw and the Mavericks return to action Thursday evening when Omaha hosts Fort Wayne for a 7 p.m. contest.
