Weninger Is NCHC Goaltender of Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Omaha freshman goaltender Evan Weninger was named the NCHC Goaltender of the Week following a sweep of visiting Western Michigan last weekend.
Weninger was in goal for both wins over the Broncos, posting a 2-0-0 record with a 2.00 goals-against average and a .936 save percentage in the series. On Friday, he stopped 28 of 29 shots and helped the Mavericks kill all four WMU power plays in a 2-1 win. The following night, he had 31 saves to help the Mavericks win their third in a row, beating the Broncos, 6-3.
The native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan currently ranks second in the NCHC with a .936 save percentage and fourth with a 2.06 GAA. With a record of 13-3-0, Weninger leads the NCHC in winning percentage (.812).
It is the first goaltender of the week award for Weninger who was named the NCHC's Rookie of the Month for November and also has earned two Rookie of the Week awards this season.

Omaha moved up one spot in one of the weekly college hockey polls this week while maintaining its spot in the other. The Mavericks are 11th in the top-15 poll from USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine, up one spot from last week. They are still 12th in the top-20 poll from USCHO.com.
UNO's opponent this week, St. Cloud State, is the highest-ranked NCHC team this week, coming in third in both polls, just ahead of North Dakota. Denver, which swept UND last weekend, moved up to 10th in both polls.
The Mavericks' two-game series with St. Cloud State will be played on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 19-20. Both games begin at 7:07 p.m. from Baxter Arena.
