15 Mavericks Named NCHC Academic All-Conference

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Omaha hockey team has placed 15 players on the National Collegiate Hockey Conference's Academic All-Conference Team.
To make the team, student-athletes must achieve a 3.0 grade-point average or better and have been at the school for at least one year.
Those Mavericks who made the list include: Ian Brady, Brian Cooper, Grant Gallo, Jake Guentzel, Tanner Lane, Joel Messner, Luke Nogard, Austin Ortega, Justin Parizek, Aaron Pearce, David Pope, Jake Randolph, Luc Snuggerud, Kirk Thompson and Tyler Vesel.
Seven of those players – Gallo, Guentzel, Parizek, Pearce, Snuggerud, Thompson and Vesel – also were named members of the NCHC Scholar-Athlete Team which means they have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better.
The Mavericks rank second in the conference in total student-athletes on both teams. Freshmen are not eligible until completing their first year at the school. Those who do make the grade will have their names added to the lists in the summer.
Last year, 23 of 25 Mavericks made the Academic All-Conference Team, the most of any NCHC school.
In all, 98 student-athletes were named to the NCHC Academic All-Conference Team.
The 2015-16 NCHC Scholar-Athlete of the Year will be announced at the NCHC Awards Celebration on Thursday, March 17 in Minneapolis, Minn. on the eve of the Frozen Faceoff.
