O'Shaughnessy Headed to USA Volleyball Tryout

OMAHA, Neb. -- Sophomore setter Sydney O'Shaughnessy will travel to the U.S. Olympic Training Center for the U.S. Women's National Team Open Tryouts this weekend, Feb. 19-21.
O'Shaughnessy, an Omaha native, is one of 231 athletes from 88 schools around the country who will vie for spots with the U.S. Women's National Team and the U.S. Collegiate National Team programs. U.S. Women's National Team head coach Karch Kiraly and his coaching staff will direct the entire tryout process, which includes four sessions with three waves per session.
Friday's opening session is set for 3-9 p.m. (CT), while Saturday's sessions are at 9 a.m. (CT) and 3 p.m. (CT). The tryout concludes on Sunday at 9 a.m. (CT) with tournament-style play, along with 16-18 athletes selected by the staff to participate in a "USA" training session.

O'Shaughnessy was an All-Summit selection in 2015, helping the Mavericks to an appearance in the Summit League Championship Final. The Omaha Marian product averaged 10.25 assists, 3.41 digs, 0.81 kills, 0.82 blocks and 0.29 aces per set in her sophomore campaign while ranking 34th nationally for assists (1,271). She finished with a team-leading 24 double-doubles and had eight performances with 50 or more assists.

Selected athletes for the U.S. Women's National Team may begin their training in Anaheim, Calif., as early as the spring of 2016 or when an athlete's scholastic or professional club season has concluded. Selections for the U.S. Collegiate National Teams will be made by the end of March.
