Weninger Named To NCHC All-Rookie Team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Omaha freshman goaltender Evan Weninger has been named to the National Collegiate Hockey Conference's All-Rookie Team.
Weninger (Saskatoon, Sask.) played and started 14 of 24 conference games in net for the Mavericks, posting a 7-7-0 record with a .904 save percentage and a 2.97 goals-against average, both of which were tops among NCHC freshman goaltenders. Weninger was a three-time NCHC weekly award honoree and was the November NCHC Rookie of the Month.
This is the third straight year that the Mavericks have had a player on the All-Rookie Team. Jake Guentzel was a member of the inaugural team in 2014 and Luc Snuggerud made the team in 2015.
Voting was conducted by the head coaches and one student-athlete at each institution. Coaches and student-athletes voted for six forwards, four defensemen and two goaltenders, awarding first-place votes for six players (three forwards, two defensemen and one goaltender) and second-place votes for the other six selections. Three points were awarded for a first-place vote while one point was awarded for a second-place vote. Coaches and players were not allowed to vote for themselves or their players/teammates.
The NCHC will announce its All-Conference Teams on Wednesday and its individual award finalists on Thursday. Individual award winners will be announced at the NCHC Awards Celebration in Minneapolis, Minn. on Thursday, March 17.
