Ahrens Tops High Jump at Clay Invitational

ASUZA, Calif. – The Omaha track and field team competed in its first of two meets in California on Thursday and Friday. The Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif. featured multiple Olympians and some of the toughest competition the Mavericks will see this season.
Sophomore Stephanie Ahrens fit right in with the meet's star-studded lineup. She won the high jump for the second consecutive meet, setting a new personal high with a jump of 5-11 ¼. That's good for second in school history and the top mark in the Summit League this season.
Also in the high jump, junior Taryn Derickson finished in 13th and jumped 5-05 which was her season best.
In other field events, two more Mavericks set personal bests and another one set a season best in their respective events. Junior Megan Adams set a new personal best in the javelin with a throw of 127-03. Freshman Taleah Williams jumped an outdoor personal best of 35-11 in the triple jump.
Junior Nicole Liske set a season best in the long jump with a leap of 18-01 ½.
In track events, freshman Lauren Houston competed in her the 800 meters for the first time this outdoor season and ran right into the UNO record book. Houston finished with a time of in 2:12.85, which was good for sixth in school history.
Omaha will compete in the Long Beach Invitational on Saturday to conclude its California road trip. Track events will begin at 10:30 a.m. (CT), and field events will follow at 11 a.m. (CT).
