Mavericks Raise the Bar in Iowa

INDIANOLA, Iowa – The Omaha track and field team put together a strong performance in Iowa on Thursday and Friday. Two athletes competed in the Drake Relays in Des Moines while the remainder of the team participated in the Kip Janvrin Open in Indianola.
Sophomore Stephanie Ahrens took second place in the high jump at the Drake Relays on Friday. Ahrens posted a mark of 5-09 3/4, which was good for her fourth top-two finish on the season.
Freshman Lauren Houston competed in the 800 meters on Thursday at Drake, finishing in sixth with a personal best with a time of 2:09.86. The time also was third-best in the Summit League and third-best in UNO history.
At the Kip Janvrin Open, junior Alyssa Thavenet posted a season best time of 2:14.19 in the 800 meters en route to a first-place finish.
In the 400 meters, Houston and sophomore Alexis Allgood notched top-five performances. Houston finished in second with a personal best time of 58.34, and Allgood placed fourth and secured a personal record time of 59.69.
In field events, juniors Taryn Derickson and Nicole Liske earned sixth-place finishes in their respective events. Derickson scored a mark of 5-01 in the high jump, and Liske had a leap of 17-08 in the long jump.
Next weekend, the Mavericks will compete in the Nebraska Invite in Lincoln on Saturday, May 7.
