
Mavs Drop Non-Conference Contest to Northern Iowa

OMAHA, Neb. ā Omaha softball saw its five game winning streak come to an end against Northern Iowa Tuesday afternoon as the Panthers took a 10-2 decision from the Mavericks in five innings.Ā UNO is now 28-23 on the season, while UNI improved to 35-14.
The Panthers took a 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning and pushed their lead to 5-0 in the top of the third.Ā The Mavericks left four runners on base in the first three innings.Ā Northern Iowa added two more runs in the top of the fourth and another three in the top of the fifth.
Omaha finally got on the board in the bottom of the fifth as Lia Mancuso lead off the inning with a double to center.Ā Nicole Warren hit a 3-1 pitch over the left field wall to make the score 10-2.Ā UNI was able to retire the next two batters before Kourtney Pock singled. Ā Megan May reached on a Northern Iowa error to put two Mavs on base.Ā Panther starter Alyssa Buchanan was able to settle down to retire the next batter to end the game.
Maverick pitcher Laura Roecker (15-11) took the loss, allowing seven runs (two earned) on nine hits and three walks with four strikeouts.Ā Abbie Clanton pitched the final 1.1 innings allowing three runs on two hits and two walks.
Warren led the Mavericks at the plate with a 2-for-3 effort with a home run and two RBI.Ā The homer in the fifth inning was Warren's 17th of the season and moves her to sixth place in the national statistical rankings.Ā Her 52 RBI also put her in the top 10 of that category.
Lizzie Noble had two hits for Omaha, while Mancuso went 1-for-2 with a double and a run scored.
Omaha returns to the field Monday, May 2 in Kansas City, Missouri against UMKC.Ā The twin bill is set for a 2 p.m. start at Missouri 3&2 Complex.
