Six Mavericks Named to All-Summit Softball Teams

OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha head softball coach Jeanne Scarpello was named the Summit League Coach of the Year, while six of her players earned All-Summit League accolades, the league office announced on Tuesday evening.
Along with Scarpello earning Coach of the Year honors, seniors Campbell Ditto and Sydney Hames, along with junior Lia Mancuso and freshman Kourtney Pock were named first team All-Summit League. Junior Nicole Warren and freshman Laura Roecker were both named second team All-Summit League.
Ditto, who earned Summit League accolades for the second time in her career, ranked third on the team with a .327 average with nine doubles, nine home runs and 26 RBI.
Hames, who earned her first Summit League honor, ranked third in the conference with a .376 batting average, while recording career highs in doubles (15), home runs (14), RBI (51) and total bases (130).
Mancuso was named to the all-conference team for the first time in her career after batting .319 with nine doubles, three home runs, six stolen bases and 18 RBI.
In her first season with the Mavericks, Pock was second on the team with a .331 average. She also had 10 doubles, eight home runs and 37 RBI.
Warren, who earned her first all-league honor, led the Summit League with 19 home runs, 57 RBI, 136 total bases and 143 assists.
Roecker, a first-year pitcher for Omaha, recorded a 16-12 record with one save in the circle, posted a 4.72 ERA and struck out 94 batters in 170.2 innings of work. She tossed four shutouts, including a no-hitter against Drake, and had 17 complete games in 33 starts.
This marks the first season in the Summit League that Omaha placed four players on the first team and six overall selections are a school record as well. In 2013, UNO had one first team, three second team and the Freshman of the Year. The Mavericks had three first team selections in 2014 and a pair of first team honorees and the Freshman of the Year in 2015.
Scarpello, who is in her 17th season at the helm of the Omaha softball program, led the Mavericks to a 29-27 overall record in 2016, which included going 12-5 in Summit League play. This is her first Summit League Coach of the Year honor and seventh of her career.
The Omaha softball team is currently preparing for the 2016 Summit League Championship in Fargo, N.D. The Mavericks, who are making their first appearance in the Summit League Tournament, will face the winner of Western Illinois and IUPUI in the second round this Thursday at 2:30 p.m.
