Mavericks Finish Fifth at Summit Championship

VERMILLION, S.D. – The Omaha track & field team came in fifth at the Summit League Outdoor Championship which concluded on Saturday at the Lillibridge Track Complex at South Dakota.
The Mavericks put up 32 points to edge Western Illinois in sixth with 28. North Dakota State won its ninth straight championship with 311 points. South Dakota was second at 213.5, and South Dakota State was third at 138.5. Oral Roberts took fourth with 74 points. After Western Illinois, IUPUI (14) was seventh and Fort Wayne (7) was eighth.
Lauren Houston had UNO's top finish of the day, taking fourth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:12.84. Alyssa Thavenet finished in eighth with a time of 2:17.77.
In the 100 meters, Nicole Liske finished seventh with a time of 12.24. For the second day in a row, she missed out on setting a personal best in the event. Like her preliminary time on Friday, the finals time was wind aided.
Liske also ran the anchor leg on UNO's 4 x 100 meter relay. She teamed with Mackenzie Zach, Tschida Johnson and TaLeah Williams to take seventh with a time of 50.09.
In the 4 x 400 meter relay, the quartet of Thavenet, Houston, Alexis Allgood and Daylee Olson also finished seventh with a time of 4:02.93.
Stephanie Ahrens was UNO's lone event winner, taking the high jump on Friday. She'll now prepare for the NCAA Preliminaries on May 26-28 in Lawrence, Kan.
