
Omaha Splits Road Twin Bill at UMKC

KANSAS CITY, Mo. ā The Omaha softball team split a doubleheader against the UMKC Kangaroos on Monday afternoon, taking the first game in five innings, 15-2 before dropping the second, 10-5.
The Mavericks are now 29-24 on the season, while the Kangaroos are 22-23.Ā Omaha finishes the regular season with a three-game series at North Dakota State, May 6-7, with first pitch for Friday's doubleheader at 2 p.m. and Saturday's contest set for 11 a.m.Ā Links to live stats for all games will be available on OMavs.com.
Game 1: Omaha 15 UMKC 2 (5 innings)
Omaha recorded 15 runs with 16 hits and two walks in game one.Ā The first four batters in the Mavericks' line-up went 11-for-16 with four doubles and a home run with nine runs scored and 10 RBI.
Nicole Warren went 3-for-4 at the plate with a double, a home run, two runs scored, and two RBI.Ā Campbell Ditto was 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored.Ā Sydney Hames went 2-for-4 with a double, three runs scored, and three RBI.Ā Bailey Schulenberg finished the opener 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI.Ā Kelly Pattison added a 2-for-4 effort with a home run and three RBI.
Laura Roecker pitched a complete game allowing only two runs on six hits while picking up her 16th win of the season.
Warren gave Omaha the early lead with a lead-off home run.Ā It was the 18th home run of the season for the junior.
UMKC tied the game up in the bottom of the second on three hits.
The Mavericks regained the lead in the top of the third.Ā Hames reached on a fielder's choice and moved to second when Ditto was hit by a pitch.Ā The pair each moved up a base when Kourtney Pock was hit by a pitch.Ā Schulenberg doubled to right center field scoring all three runners.
Omaha added two more runs in the top of the fourth.Ā Tara Trede walked to start the inning and moved to second on Lia Mancuso's sacrifice bunt.Ā Hames then singled to right scoring Trede.Ā Ditto laced a double down the left field lines to bring in Hames.
UNO put the game out of reach in the top of the fifth by scoring nine runs on 10 hits.Ā Schulenberg opened the inning with a single.Ā Pattison cleared the bases with a two-run homer to center.Ā Alexis Parker and Mancuso hit back-to-back singles for Omaha.Ā Warren brought in Parker with a double to right field.Ā Hames hit a two-run double to center.Ā Ditto moved Hames to third with a single.Ā Pock then singled up the middle allowing Hames to score.Ā Lizzie Noble followed with a two-run double to center field.Ā Noble moved to third on Kylie Schwarting's sacrifice bunt and scored on Pattison's single.
UMKC added a run in the bottom of the fifth, but it was not enough as the game was called due to the run rule.
Game 2: UMKC 10 Omaha 5
The two teams combined for 15 runs on 25 hits and four errors in game two.Ā Nicole Warren and Kelly Pattison each had two hits for the Mavericks in the night cap.Ā Warren went 2-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored.Ā Pattison went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored.
Megan May had a homer and two RBI, while Lia Mancuso drove in a run.
Abbie Clanton (11-10) took the loss for Omaha.Ā Clanton pitched 5.1 innings allowing nine runs on 12 hits and three walks with three strikeouts.Ā Lizzie Noble pitched the final 2/3 of an inning allowing one run on three hits with one strikeout.
UMKC scored two runs in the bottom of the first to take an early lead.Ā The first two Kangaroo batters reached and the first run came across on a perfectly timed sacrifice bunt.Ā The inning's second run scored on a double down the right field line.
Omaha responded in the top of the second with three runs on four hits.Ā Bailey Schulenberg hit a one-out double to right field.Ā May then hit a 1-1 offering over the left center wall to tie the game, 2-2.Ā Pattison doubled and came around to score on Mancuso's single to center.
The Mavericks extended their lead in the top of the fifth, 4-2.Ā Warren hit a one-out single to center and moved to second as Sydney Hames reached on an error.Ā Campbell Ditto loaded the bases with an infield single.Ā Kourtney Pock lifted a sacrifice fly to left field allowing Warren to score.Ā UMKC retired the next batter to avoid any further damage in the inning.
UMKC took the lead in the bottom of the frame with five runs on four hits and an Omaha error.Ā The Kangaroos extended the lead in the bottom of the sixth with three more runs, 10-4.
Warren led off the top of the seventh with a solo homer to left field.Ā The shot was Warren's 19th home run of the season and moves her into fifth place nationally.Ā Ditto reached on an error and moved to second on Noble's single.Ā UMKC was able to get the final out for a 10-5 win.
