Indiana Transfer Guard Walter Signs with Mavericks

OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha head coach Brittany Lange announced today the signing of transfer Jess Walter to the women's basketball program. Walter, a 6-foot guard who played her first two seasons at Indiana, will sit out the 2016-17 season due to NCAA transfer rules and will have two years of eligibility remaining.
In her sophomore campaign, Walter averaged 16.4 minutes in 32 games with five starts for Indiana, who reached the second round of the NCAA tournament. As a Hoosier freshman in 2014-15, Walter averaged 7.4 points per game while shooting 41.7 percent from behind the arc in 31 games with four starts. She led all Big Ten freshmen and was fourth overall in the conference in 3-point field goal percentage at 41.7 percent.
"We could not be more pleased to welcome Jess to Omaha," Lange said. "She is a very decorated player with a high level of experience that is passionate about the game and being a part of the rise of our program."
During her prep career, she played four years at Midland High School and was a runner-up for Miss Basketball in the state of Michigan in 2014. In her senior season, Walter averaged 18.0 points, 5.9 assists, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per game while leading the Chemics to a 21-3 record with a conference and district title. She earned several accolades her senior year, including Detroit Free Press First Team Class-A All-State, Saginaw Daily News Dream Team, Midland Daily News Dream Team MVP, Saginaw Valley MVP, Saginaw Valley League First Team and High School Sports Scene magazine Dream Team co-Player of the Year. She holds Midland records for most points scored, most 3-pointers made and most assists in a season.

"Even though she will sit this coming year, the team will greatly benefit from her experience, work-ethic, and leadership, while looking to expand her individual game.
