Hames Tabbed Third-Team Academic All-American

OMAHA, Neb. – Senior infielder Sydney Hames was named to the 2016 Academic All-America® Division I softball team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Hames, the Mavericks' leading hitter, batted .375 this year with 15 doubles, one triple, 14 home runs, a team-high 75 hits and 55 RBI. She also had a .670 slugging and a .421 on-base percentage. The senior led the team in average, doubles and hits and was second in slugging percentage, home runs, total bases and RBI.
Hames had the second-most hits and RBI in the Summit League this season. She was third in average, home runs, and total bases.
An outstanding student, the Bennington, Neb. native carries a 3.87 grade-point average with a major in elementary education and deaf education and is a member of the UNO Dean's List. Hames has been a two-time NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete and is a three-time Summit League Distinguished Scholar. She also earned the UNO Bob Kruger Commitment Award in 2016.
She is the eighth Academic All-American in Omaha softball history and the second in the Division I era. Allie Mathewson was honored in 2014. Other honorees include Deb Baetsle (1994), Tara Buzzell (1999), Jennifer Carson (2001), Kathy Gass (1986, 1987), and Michelle Manthei (2001).
