Bullock Joins Maverick Staff as Assistant Coach

OMAHA, Neb. -- Former Maverick guard Tyler Bullock will return to the Omaha men's basketball coaching staff as an assistant coach, head coach Derrin Hansen announced Friday.
Bullock has spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach at Southwestern Community College in Creston, Iowa, working under head coach Todd Lorensen. In 2014-15, the Spartans went 23-10, spent six consecutive weeks in the national poll and earned a spot in the ICCAC regional semifinals. In 2015-16, SWCC went 25-6 en route to the school record for wins, won a regular-season conference championship for the first time in 19 years and made an appearance in the ICCAC regional quarterfinals.
Over Bullock's two seasons, nine Spartan players earned all-region recognition, and one was named an NJCAA third-team All-American in 2015-16.
"I'm so appreciative of the opportunity Southwestern Community College provided me over the last two years, as I've been able to gain necessary experience and establish connections that helped me grow as a coach,” Bullock said.
“I'm also ecstatic to have the chance to return home and be part of the Omaha basketball family again. Coaching at my alma mater is an incredibly special opportunity, and I'm excited to be part of its growth and success. Coach Hansen and his staff have led this program in the right direction, and I look forward to continuing and building on those achievements as we move further into the Division I era.”
Bullock began his career with two years as Omaha's director of men's basketball operations from 2012-14. During his time on staff, UNO played in the 2014 CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament (CIT) and registered its first winning season in the Division I era, and three Mavericks earned All-Summit accolades.
Prior to his director of operations stint, Bullock played professionally with the Moncton Miracles of the National Basketball League of Canada and the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Steamers of the Premier Basketball League.
As a student-athlete at UNO, Bullock was a two-year starter from 2009-11. An All-America honorable mention selection as a senior, he was also a two-time all-region pick and a two-time first-team All-MIAA honoree. In 2009-10, he led the Mavericks to a conference championship and an NCAA Tournament berth.
"We're thrilled to have Tyler Bullock joining our staff as an assistant coach," Hansen said. "He is one of our all-time greats as a player, and he was a leader and a competitor on the floor, which will now carry over to the players on our current squad. After finishing his professional playing career, he also served on our staff and did an excellent job as our director of operations.
"I've known Tyler as both a student-athlete and a staff member, and his familiarity with our other assistant coaches, Pat Eberhart and Tyler Erwin, will make for a smooth transition as he returns to UNO. We look forward to welcoming him back for the next step in his career and continuing to build our basketball program's momentum in the years to come."
Bullock capped his Omaha career with 1,124 points, becoming the fastest player in school history to hit the 1,000 career points milestone. His 536 points as a junior remain the fourth-highest single-season mark of any player in program history. Bullock averaged 19.1 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.5 steals per game over his career.
Also a standout academically, Bullock was a member of the MIAA Academic Honor Roll and the NABC Honors Court. A native of Lincoln, Neb., he graduated with his bachelor's degree in business in May 2011.
