Gruber Picks Up ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Honors

OMAHA, Neb. -- Senior outfielder Cole Gruber has been named to the ABCA/Rawlings Midwest All-Region Second Team, the American Baseball Coaches Association announced this week. Teams are determined by a vote of ABCA members.
Gruber, the Summit League's leading hitter, started all 56 games this season and batted .376 with 13 doubles, two triples, one home run, 55 runs scored, 30 RBI, 32 walks and 43 stolen bases. He ranks third nationally for stolen bases and fourth for stolen bases per game (0.77), and he paced the Summit League for hits (83), runs and swiped bags en route to first-team All-Summit accolades. Gruber had a team-high 26 multi-hit performances and five multi-RBI games in his senior campaign, and he captured the all-time league record for career sacrifice bunts (35) and finished second for career stolen bases (105).
A product of Papillion-LaVista, Gruber is Omaha's first all-region selection of the Division I era. He was selected in last week's MLB First-Year Player Draft, going in the 27th round to the Oakland Athletics as the 802nd overall pick.
