Mavericks Cap Preseason With Black/White Scrimmage

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha volleyball team wrapped up preseason preparations Saturday evening, hosting its annual Black/White Scrimmage at Sapp Fieldhouse.
Omaha White and Omaha Black finished the match tied 2-2. Omaha Black took the first two games, 25-19 and 26-24, after which Omaha White rebounded for identical wins of 25-23 in the third and fourth games.
Freshmen Hannah Angeli and Ashley Smith each tallied a double-double for Omaha Black. Angeli finished with 41 assists and 13 digs, as well as two service aces, while Smith had 11 assists and 17 digs. Sophomore Kayla Torson and redshirt freshman Meagen Roth also totaled a match-best 18 kills apiece for the Black squad, and Torson chipped in a match-leading three aces.
Omaha White was led by double-doubles from seniors Elise Brown (18 kills, 10 digs) and Nicki Carson (10 kills, 11 digs), with Carson adding a match-best four blocks and two aces. Junior Sydney O'Shaughnessy also racked up a match-leading 44 assists in her performance, and junior Amanda Conlin matched Carson at the net with four blocks of her own. Defensively, freshman Olivia Spanton notched a match-high 22 digs for the night.
Omaha opens its 2016 season Aug. 26-27 at the North Dakota Tournament, facing host UND, UC Davis and Ole Miss in Grand Forks, N.D.
