Mavericks Fifth In NCHC Preseason Poll

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Omaha hockey team is fifth in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference annual preseason media poll, the conference announced today.
Entering their fourth season in the NCHC, the Mavericks earned 119 points in the voting by 30 members of local media members from each school as well as selected national media.
Defending national champion North Dakota earned the top spot in the voting with 235 points and 25 first-place votes. The Fighting Hawks have won the Penrose Cup as regular season champions in each of the last two seasons.
Denver, a 2016 NCAA Frozen Four participant, was picked second with 200 points and three first-place votes while Minnesota Duluth picked up the other two first-place votes and finished third with 173 points. St. Cloud State, last season's NCHC Frozen Faceoff champion, was fourth with 155 points.
Following the Mavericks, Miami was picked sixth with 96 points followed by Western Michigan (65 points) and Colorado College (37).
Last season, Omaha was picked fourth in the preseason poll and finished sixth with a conference record of 8-15-1-0/0. The Mavericks were 18-17-1 overall, losing to Denver in the first round of the NCHC Playoffs.
The preseason poll comes on the eve of NCHC Media Day which will be held at the Target Center in Minneapolis, home of the Frozen Faceoff, beginning at 10 a.m.
