
Mavericks Head North To South Dakota State

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha track & field teams is back in action this weekend at the Jim Emmerich/Alumni Invitational at South Dakota State. The meet begins at noon at the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex in Brookings, S.D.
The Mavericks are coming off the Holiday Inn Invitational at Nebraska last weekend.
Among the highlights:
• Junior Stephanie Ahrens took fourth in the high jump with a leap of 5-07.
• Freshman Nyakuome Thichiot was seventh in the triple jump with a mark of 35-08 ¾, a personal best by more than six inches.
• Sophomore Anna Edet had a PR of 51-06 ½ in the weight throw, taking fourth place. It's the second straight PR for Edet and is the sixth-best mark in the event in school history.
• Sophomore Maddy Partridge put up a season best in the weight throw with a toss of 45-03 ½.
• On the track, the distance medley relay team of Alyssa Thavenet, Sydnee Mitchell-Jemison, Lauren Houston and Anita Jenkins took fifth in a time of 12:40.59.
• Junior Annie Catania posted a personal best in the mile with a time of 5:31.14, good for ninth place. She finished just ahead of freshman teammate Sarah Steffensmeier who clocked a time of 5:31.60 in her first start in the event.
• In the 3,000 meters, freshman Willa Koenig finished eighth in a time of 10:33.78.
Following competition at SDSU, the Mavericks will head to Minneapolis for the Jack Johnson Invitational at Minnesota on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 27-28.
