Mavericks Set Record in Round Two at ODU

POWELLS POINT, N.C. – The Omaha men's golf team set a new school record for single-round team score to move up to 10th at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate on Monday.
The Mavericks shot 282 in the second round at the Kilmarlic Golf Club, two under par and three strokes better than the previous school record set at the same event last year. It also tied them for the third-best score of the day out of the 18 teams in the tournament.
UNO is now at 576 for the tournament and only three strokes out of fifth place. They began the day in 15th place. Campbell leads the event with a 36-hole score of 540. Ball State is second at 559, and host Old Dominion is third at 562.
The Mavericks started the day teeing off on the 10th hole, and nine birdies over the final three holes fueled their record round. Sam Musch birdied holes 7-9 while Cole Christain birdied the last two holes, and David Huxham had birdies on seven and nine. All five golfers birdied the ninth hole.
Both Kevin Gordon and Christain finished the day with scores of 68, three under par. The score was a career best for Christain in Division I and tied Gordon's career best. Gordon is tied for ninth in the field of 92 golfers. Christain is two strokes back at 141, good for a tie for 14th.
Musch carded a one-over round of 72 to put him at 146 for the tournament, good for a tie for 44th. David Huxham shot a three-over 74 for a total of 151. That puts him in a tie for 74th.
Bank Chantrakantanond finished the scoring with a round of 80, and he is now at 156 for the event, good for a tie for 87th.
The final round of the event begins at 7 a.m. CT on Tuesday. It will be UNO's final round of the fall season.
