Mavericks Look to Keep Momentum at NCAA Regionals

OMAHA, Neb. - The Omaha cross country team will travel to Ames, Iowa for the NCAA Midwest Regional Championship on Friday, Nov. 10. The 6k women's race begins at 2 p.m.
The Mavericks last competed on Oct. 28, rising above their preseason conference ranking to take fourth at the Summit League Championships. They were picked to finish fifth in the coaches' poll in August.
Their finish marked the highest finish by Omaha since joining the Summit League in 2012.
Willa Koenig finished 18th and Emily Johnson finished 21st as both ran personal bests for the 6k event in 22:12.91 and 22:28.00, respectively.
Kayla Sabotin took 25th in a new personal-best time of 22:34.53. Fellow senior Alyssa Averhoff crossed the line in 23:09.81, taking 32nd. Renata Valquier Chavez secured 34th place in 23:14.83.
Anita Jenkins and Annie Catania ran personal bests as well, finishing in 23:16.73 and 23:46.77, respectively.
With a slew of personal bests at the Summit League Championship, the Mavericks are well-positioned for another round of personal bests at the Midwest Regional Championships.
In order to qualify for the NCAA National Championships, the Mavericks would have to finish in the top two at the meet or be selected as one of 13 "at-large" teams. In addition, the top four individuals not on a qualifying team will run at the NCAA Championship in Louisville, Ky. on Nov. 18.
