OMAHA, Neb. – Jess Walter scored a career-high 25 points and led the Mavericks as the Omaha women's basketball team defeated College of Saint Mary, 81-58, Sunday afternoon at Baxter Arena.

With the win, the Mavericks improved to 6-2 overall (0-0 Summit League), while the Flames are 0-10 (0-5 GPAC).

Inside the First Quarter
UNO found itself in a slugfest in the first quarter. Omaha shot 53.3 percent (8-of-15) overall, and Jess Walter led the way with eight points. College of Saint Mary shot 35.7 percent (5-of-14) from the field and 80 percent (4-of-5) from the free throw line. The Mavericks held a 19-14 lead at the end of the first 10 minutes.

Sizing Up the Second Quarter
A 3-pointer by Claire Killian stretched Omaha's lead to eight points early in the second quarter, 22-14. CSM managed to chip away at the lead and tied the game at 27-27 midway through the period on a Lynsey Curran 3-pointer. Another Curran 3-pointer put the Flames up one, 33-32, at the 3:14 mark. The lead was short-lived as Kalen Phillips hit two free throws to put Omaha back on top. UNO closed out the half on an 8-2 run and took a 42-37 lead at the half.

Looking at the Third Quarter
Omaha outscored College of Saint Mary 23-7 in the third quarter to put the game out of reach. The Mavericks shot 53.3 percent (8-of-15) from the field and 55.6 percent (5-of-9) from the free throw line. The Flames managed to connect on 27.3 percent (3-of-11) from the floor. Omaha opened the second half on a 21-4 spurt led by Ellie Brecht's 10 points. Killian added seven points, four rebounds and four assists in the period. Romekia Wallace's free throw with 47 seconds left in the period gave UNO its largest lead of the game at 23 points, 65-42. The Mavericks led 65-44 to conclude the third.

Wrapping Up the Fourth Quarter
Omaha cooled a bit from the floor in the fourth quarter, hitting only 43.8 percent (7-of-16) of its shots. CSM connected on 40 percent (6-of-15) if its shots including a pair of 3-pointers. Walter scored six points in the quarter as the Mavericks outscored the Flames 16-14.

Leaders for Omaha
Jess Walter led the team with a career-high 25 points on 11-of-16 shooting from the field, including three 3-pointers. Walter also had five rebounds, three steals and two assists. Claire Killian scored 16 points on 66.7 percent (6-of-9) shooting from the floor. Killian also had eight rebounds, six assists and two steals. Ellie Brecht chipped in 16 points, three rebounds, three steals and a blocked shot. Amber Vidal had a game-high eight assists to go along with four points, two boards and two steals.

Lynsey Curren scored 15 points on 5-of-11 shooting to lead the Flames. Keona Cadore added 11 points.
