Mavericks Cap Strong Week at Summit League Championships

INDIANAPOLIS -- The Omaha swimming & diving team completed its four-day run Summit League Championships Saturday at IU Natatorium, punctuating the meet with a fourth-place finish in the team standings with 490 points.
Denver won the team championship for the fourth straight year, totaling 1,052 points. IUPUI came in second with 584.5 points, followed by South Dakota in third (582.5) and Omaha in fourth. South Dakota State (454), Western Illinois (196) and Eastern Illinois (186) rounded in out in fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively.
Senior Morgan Stepp capped her decorated Maverick career with one last top-three finish, placing third in the 200 fly (2:01.94) for a bronze medal. The effort brought Omaha's medal haul to four for the week, as the Mavericks had previously earned a silver and two bronze over the first three days.
Junior Tiril Jensen also took fourth in the 100 IM (58.33) and sixth in the 200 breast (2:21.12), and sophomore Kylie Vermeire registered fifth in the 1650 free (17:21.90).
Juniors Olivia McLain and Cassie Jahn and freshmen Anna Capoun and Rachel Morrow tallied a time of 3:29.60 in the 400 free relay, good for fifth place.
“This was a great conference meet performance for our team,” head coach Todd Samland said. “We've placed fifth for the past couple of years, and it feels good to move up to fourth place. We had some super performances from Morgan Stepp, Tiril Jensen, Kylie Vermeire, Andrea Brosnahan, Annika Clinton, Grete Baker and Monica Houck, among others, and we're proud of the fight our team showed this week.”
