Omaha Shut Out by Kennesaw State

KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State's Alley Cutting threw a one-hitter Sunday morning, as the Omaha softball team was shut out 9-0 at Bailey Park. The Mavericks are now 4-9 (0-0 Summit League), while the Owls improve to 10-4 (0-0 ASUN).
Junior Kelly Pattison went 1-for-2 at the plate with a walk and a single.
Cutting (4-2) allowed no hits through the first 3.1 innings and struck out six of the first 12 batters she faced. Cutting pitched a complete game for the win, finishing with eight strikeouts and three walks. Sophomore right-hander Laura Roecker (2-4) took the loss, lasting 2.2 innings and giving up five runs – four earned – on six hits and three walks with one strikeout.
Courtney Sutter (2-for-2, home run, double, two runs, and three RBI) and Olivia Tamewitz (3-for-3, double) had multi-hit performances for Kennesaw State.
Kennesaw State put four runs on the board in the bottom of the second. Andrea Summey drew a one-out walk and moved to second on a wild pitch. Jessie Mullen doubled to bring in Summey. Taylor Denton singled to move Mullen to third but Omaha's second error of the frame allowed her to score. Two more UNO errors allowed KSU to put two more runs on the board and take a 4-0 advantage. Kennesaw State added its fifth run of the day in the third on a pair of hits.
Omaha mounted a threat in the top of the fourth. Pattison broke up Cutting's no-hit bid with a one-out single. Cutting struck out the next batter before walking senior Lia Mancuso and freshman Emma Dargy to load the bases. KSU ended the UNO threat by getting a foul out to end the inning.
KSU had a big fourth inning, putting up four runs on three hits. The Owls put their first two batters on base before Sutter cleared the bases with a homerun. Kira Czyrklis hit a two-out single to left to plate another run, and give the Owls a 9-0 lead.
Omaha returns to action next weekend at the Red Desert Classic in Cedar City, Utah. The Mavericks will play five games over three days. Links to live stats when available will be posted on OMavs.com.
