OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha men's golf team opens its season by hosting the UNO Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 1-2 at ArborLinks in Nebraska City.
This is the fourth season the men have hosted the event. This year, six teams will join the Mavericks for the 54-hole tournament. The teams will play 36 holes on Friday and finish with 18 on Saturday beginning with a shotgun start each day at 7:30 a.m.
The Mavericks return four letter winners from last season including Kelly Brown, Kevin Gordon, David Huxham and Sam Musch. Gordon finished second for UNO in the Summit League Championship last year as a sophomore, shooting 223, seven-over-par. Brown and Huxham also played in the Summit Championship.
Gordon finished second for the Mavericks in scoring last season with a stroke average of 75.1, just behind graduated senior Ben Maskus who will be serving as a volunteer assistant coach this season. Gordon led the Mavericks with two top-five finishes last season and had a team-best seven rounds below par.
The Mavericks will welcome four newcomers including junior college transfers Bank Chantrakantanond, Cole Christain and Austin Palubeskie and true freshman Patrick Ravn. In addition, Jonah Wright will be in action for UNO after redshirting his freshman year due to injury.
Omaha plays in five tournaments during the fall season including stops at SIUE, Drake, UMKC and Old Dominion.
