OMAHA, Neb. -- Sophomore diver Andrea Brosnahan clinched her second straight NCAA Zone Diving berth Friday evening as the Omaha swimming & diving team defeated South Dakota 171-124 at HPER Pool. The win marked the Mavericks' first dual meet win this season.

Brosnahan, who swept both diving events, made the NCAA cut in the 1-meter event with a score of 266.47. She also tallied a winning score of 272.93 in the 3-meter event. The Wayzata, Minn., native will compete at the NCAA Zone D meet, March 5-7, in Minneapolis, Minn.

"Andrea is one fierce competitor," head coach Todd Samland said. "She's been fighting through injury, but she knows how to spin fast and put in a clean dive. She has amazing competitiveness and makes it look easy when it's not. (Diving coach) Eric Sprague deserves a lot of credit for the work he has done with our divers and what they're accomplishing."

Diving teammates Annika Clinton and Monica Houck were close behind in the 1-meter event to clinch a Maverick sweep. Clinton placed second (247.65), while Houck was third (245.32), and she chipped in another third-place effort in the 3-meter event (262.65).

On the swimming side, the Mavericks opened the meet with a one-two showing in the 200 medley relay. The A team of Kirsten Kracke, Tiril Jensen, Olivia McLain and Naeleah Hadford took first (1:48.06), while the B team of Kendra Lair, Brook Landt, Samantha Starke and Madison Ewald were second (1:49.09).

Kylie Vermeire followed with a win in the 1000 free (10:38.18). Rachel Morrow then won the 200 free (1:57.11), followed by Cassandra Jahn in third (1:59.26). Kracke then took third in the 100 back (1:00.16), and in the 100 breast, Omaha earned second- and third-place finishes from Jensen (1:08.54) and Elena Page (1:09.25), respectively.

Omaha then swept the top three spots in the 200 fly, with Olivia McLain victorious with a time of 2:09.57, followed by Starke (2:11.34) in second and Grete Baker (2:14.54) in third. Hadford tallied a win in the 50 free (24.22), and Ewald claimed third (25.08). Shortly thereafter, Hadford pulled in another win in the 100 free (53.75), followed by Kracke in third (54.56).

In the 200 back, Lair put up a third-place performance with a time of 2:14.30. The 200 breast race included a win for Rebecca Martini (2:26.81) and a third-place effort from Jensen (2:28.72).

The Mavericks secured another one-two-three showing in the 500 free, with Vermeire in first (5:10.92), Morrow in second (5:12.71) and Jahn in third (5:17.40). McLain closed with her second event win of the night in the 100 fly (58.08).

"We had so many people perform well tonight, and it was a great team win," Samland said. "We started off strong with the one-two showing in the medley relay and finished well with the one-two-three showing in the free relay. Our depth was strong, and every class won at least one event, which shows how well-rounded the effort was. We did a great job of fighting for each point."

Omaha returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 13, hosting in-state foe Nebraska. The meet is set for an 11 a.m. start time at HPER Pool.
