Mavericks Compete at Jim Emmerich Invitational

BROOKINGS, S.D. - The Omaha track & field team competed at the Jim Emmerich Invitational hosted by South Dakota State University on Saturday.
Alyssa Averhoff and Emily Johnson ran new personal bests in the mile. Averhoff ran a two-second best in a time of 5:20.78 while Johnson ran a six-second best in a time of 5:28.84.Â
"We have been training hard for the past two weeks and it showed today," said head coach Chris Richardson. "Coach Cisar and I were happy with Emily's and Alyssa's performances in the mile. It shows that even when we're tired, we can stay focused on our technique and goals.
"We can always accomplish positive things when we have the right attitude," Richardson added. "The work we put in over the past couple of weeks will serve us well later in the season."
Anna Edet threw her third longest weight toss mark in her career, at 54 feet 9 inches (16.69 meters).
Cassady Sunderman took ninth in the high jump with a mark of 5 feet 1 inch (1.55 meters).
Sasha Quattlebaum and Noni Henderson finished 10th and 11th in the triple jump, respectively. Quattlebaum's final mark was 35 feet 2 inches (10.74 meters) with Henderson posting a mark was 34 feet 5 inches (10.51 meters).Â
In the 800 meter, Lauren Houston finished 11th with a time of 2:17.66.
The 4x400 meter relay of Alexis Allgood, Houston, Daylee Olson and Anita Jenkins finished 11th in a time of 4:07.34.
Next week, the Mavericks travel to Minneapolis, Minn. for the Jack Johnson Invitational hosted by Minnesota on Jan. 26-27. Day one begins at 2 p.m. and day two begins at noon.
