Ward Named NCHC Rookie of the Week

Freshman Taylor Ward was named the NCHC Rookie of the Week after scoring two goals and earning an assist in last weekend's series against Miami.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Omaha hockey freshman forward Taylor Ward has been named the NCHC Rookie of the Week for the period ending Nov. 3.

Ward is Omaha's first weekly award winner this season.

Last week, Ward scored two goals and added an assist for three points as the Mavericks split their NCHC-season opening series with Miami.

On Friday, he had Omaha's only goal in a 4-1 loss, finishing the game with two shots and a -1 rating. The next night, the native of Kelowna, British Columbia had UNO's first goal and had the primary assist on another as the Mavericks earned their first win of the season, 6-3. He finished that game with a +2 rating with three shots. He was named the Second Star of the Game each night.

Ward has scored a goal in three straight games, a team season high.

The Mavericks return to action at Western Michigan on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 9-10. Both games begin at 6:05 p.m. CT from Lawson Arena in Kalamazoo, Mich.
