PEORIA, Ill. – The Omaha cross country team finished its season at the NCAA Midwest Regionals at Bradley on Friday.
Sophomore Emily Johnson led the Mavericks in all six meets this season and finished 70th overall in the field of 232 runners with a time of 21:48.0. Â
"Emily finished a superb season with the highest finish in the NCAA Regional meet that we've had since being Division I," said Cliff Cisar, head cross country coach. "She was just seconds off her personal best time on a snowy, wet and sloppy course. I'm extremely proud of how she has upped her game and filled our top spot this season in the absence of our previous season's number one, Renata Valquier Chavéz.
"I think we learned a lot today and throughout the course of the season," Cisar added. "There are a lot of positives, and the future is looking very bright."
Freshman Heidi Hall was second on the team and 204th overall in a time of 23:49.9. She was just ahead of teammate Anita Jenkins who was 208th overall at 23:55.2.
Lauren Houston was fourth on the team and was 213th overall in a time of 24:14.0. Ivanna Uribe completed the scoring for the Mavericks with a time of 25:02.2, good for 224th place.
Annie Catania was 226th with a time of 25:48.5.
The Mavericks finished 32nd in the field of 34 teams with a score of 919.
