COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Omaha junior goaltender Evan Weninger has been named the NCHC's Goaltender of the Week for the second time this season.
Weninger was in goal for both games as the Mavericks split at Minnesota Duluth last weekend. On Friday, he made 41 saves, his second-highest save total of the season, and allowed only one goal in a 4-1 win over the Bulldogs to snap a four-game winless streak at Amsoil Arena. The win was his career-best 15th of the season.
The next night, he made 35 more saves and allowed three goals, one on the power play, in a 4-1 loss. The native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan posted a 2.01 goals against average and a .950 save percentage for the weekend. He has now started the last 14 games and improved his save percentage from .890 to .900 in that stretch. He has now appeared in 29 games this season, a new career high.
The No. 13 Mavericks visit No. 14 North Dakota for the NCHC Quarterfinals on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, if necessary, March 9-11.
