Kinney Tabbed NCBWA National Pitcher of the Week

OMAHA, Neb. -- Senior right-handed pitcher Payton Kinney was named National Pitcher of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) after his Sunday no-hitter against Ohio, it was announced Tuesday.
Kinney was previously selected Summit League Pitcher of the Week, NCAA Player of the Week and one of Collegiate Baseball's National Players of the Week on Monday.
The Firth, Neb., native tossed a no-hitter in Omaha's 4-0 shutout of the Bobcats on Sunday in Emerson, Ga. Kinney went the distance for his first win of the season, striking out a career-high-tying nine batters. It was Omaha's first no-hitter since the Maverick staff combined for one in 2015 and its second of the Division I era.
For the season, Kinney is 1-1 with a 3.31 ERA. Opponents are hitting just .175 against him over 16.1 innings pitched.
Kentucky's Luke Heyer joined Kinney as National Hitter of the Week. National Player of the Week awards are determined by the NCBWA Board, which reviews candidates from each Division I Conference each week and names winners on Tuesday throughout the season.
