Lange Announces Staff Additions

OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha women's basketball head coach Brittany Lange has announced the additions of Janet Butler as an assistant coach and Emily Wood as director of operations.
"We're thrilled to have Janet Butler and Emily Wood join our staff," said Lange. "These two coaches are rising stars in our profession and bring a tremendous amount of energy, winning experiences, character, and leadership qualities to our staff. I feel that we have equipped our team to be impacted by the best young people in the business."
Butler joins the Mavericks after spending the 2017-18 season as an assistant at Monmouth University in West Long Branch, N.J. She was named to the WBCA's Thirty Under 30 list this season.
Before joining the Hawks, Butler served as an assistant coach at the University of Nevada. She was elevated to that role in July 2015, after serving as the Director of Operations from 2013-2015 and as a Graduate Assistant from 2012-2013. Butler earned her Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from Nevada in 2014.
A native of Eros, La., Butler played collegiately at Louisiana College, where she was a two-time co-captain, helping her team to two straight regular-season American Southwest Conference titles and berths in the NCAA Division III National Tournament in 2009-10 and 2010-11. Butler earned her degree in Health & PE with Teacher Certification from Louisiana College in 2011.
"Janet has had great experiences in her budding coaching career, coaching on both coasts and in the South for three different Division I programs," said Lange. "She brings energy, creativity, and work ethic that is infectious and relates to everyone she encounters. Janet understands what it takes to develop a program in its entirety and has had her hand in every area of a successful program."
Wood graduated with a degree in management from Nebraska in 2017. A four-year letterwinner for the Huskers from 2014-18, she capped her career as one of Nebraska's most decorated players, earning the team's Husker Award for the second straight year while also claiming Nebraska's 2018 Lifter of the Year Award for women's basketball. Wood was also the recipient of Nebraska's Big Ten Sportsmanship Award for the second straight year while earning a prestigious Dr. Barbara Hibner Trailblazer Scholarship across Nebraska's female sports. She also participated in the WBCA's "So You Want to Be a Coach" program in conjunction with the NCAA Women's Final Four in Columbus, Ohio.
A native of Salina, Kan., Wood averaged 3.9 points and 1.6 rebounds as a senior while playing in all 31 games. She scored a career-high 19 points with a career-high five threes against Washington State.
"Emily will be exceptional in this role and be a leader our players can look up to," said Lange. "She has been a part of transforming a program to one of the biggest turnarounds in Division I this past year at Nebraska. Emily has great Midwest ties and is highly accomplished and respected for her leadership and positive influence on others."
