Hansen Announces Transfers of Barney, Strom for 2018-19

OMAHA, Neb. -- Head coach Derrin Hansen announced Friday a pair of transfers in Brett Barney and Logan Strom to the Omaha men's basketball program in 2018-19.
"We're excited about the size and skill that Brett and Logan will bring to our program," Hansen said. "Both will compliment Matt Pile and our current team offensively, yet be able to defend frontcourt players in the Summit League. Brett and Logan are both high character kids who are also high achievers in the classroom. They will fit in well and add to our team's culture."
BRETT BARNEY

Barney began his collegiate career with three seasons at Wichita State under coach Gregg Marshall, where was a member of three straight Shocker teams that made NCAA Tournament appearances. In 2015-16 and 2016-17, he was part of back-to-back MVC regular-season and conference tournament championships.
As a sophomore in 2017-18, Barney averaged 1.7 points per game and shot .714 from the field in reserve. In his freshman season, he appeared in 17 games off the bench, shooting .556.
Prior to WSU, Barney spent one season in prep school at Sunrise Christian Academy in Bel Aire, Kan.
Barney was a four-year letterwinner for coach Kip Schultz at Maize South High School, where he helped the Mavericks to a 16-6 record as a senior and earned second-team All-AVTL Division II honors and honorable mention All-Class 5A recognition. As a junior, he averaged 14.7 points per game.
"Brett brings size to our frontcourt, which was an immediate focus during this offseason," Hansen said. "Not only can he score around the rim, but he can stretch the defense to the arc. That will allow us to have five shooters on the floor at once."
LOGAN STROM

Strom joins the Mavericks after redshirting his first season at UC Davis in 2017-18.
As a high school player, Strom was a four-year letterwinner for coach Ben Ries at Norfolk High School and received a combined 26 Division I basketball and football offers. A four-time first-team all-conference selection, he earned first-team all-state accolades as a senior. Strom's final campaign included 16.8 points, 9.1 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game, and he helped the Panthers to their first Class A state championship in 30 years.
Strom will sit out in 2018-19 in accordance with NCAA transfer rules.
"Logan was one of the more sought-after prep players in the state of Nebraska in recent memory," Hansen said. "We're thrilled that he is transferring to our program. After he sits out a mandatory transfer season, our fans will like the skill set he brings as a frontcourt player."
