Freshmen Earn NCHC Academic Honors

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – All three members of the Omaha hockey team's freshman class were named to the National Collegiate Hockey Conference Academic All-Conference Team.
Lawson McDonald, Cole Pickup and Martin Sundberg were part of a group of 45 NCHC freshmen who earned the honor. To make the team, a player must have at least a 3.0 grade-point average and have been at the school for at least one year.
In addition, all three players were named NCHC Distinguished Scholar-Athletes for earning a 3.5 GPA for the year. That helped the Mavericks pace the conference with 13 total Distinguished Scholar-Athletes, one ahead of Western Michigan.
For the 2017-18 season, the Mavericks had 23 of 26 team members achieve Academic All-Conference, second in the NCHC behind Western Michigan's 24. Seniors, juniors and sophomores were recognized in February.
In the five-year history of the NCHC, the Mavericks have led the conference or tied for the lead in Academic All-Conference picks four times.
