Weninger Named NCHC Goaltender of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Senior Evan Weninger has been named the NCHC Goaltender of the Week for the second time this season.
Weninger posted back-to-back shutouts to backstop the Mavericks to a series sweep of Alaska Anchorage on Dec. 29 and 31. On Saturday, Weninger made 20 saves and helped blunt three UAA power plays in a 3-0 win. The following game, he made 20 more saves and helped squelch two more power plays in a 4-0 win.
With the two shutouts, the native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan tied Dan Ellis for the Omaha career shutout total with seven. They were the first consecutive shutouts for the Mavericks since 2002.
Weninger now is tied for third at UNO with 45 career wins. As a result of the series, he lowered his goals-against average from 4.13 to 3.60 and boosted his save percentage from .884 to .893.
Weninger now has won seven weekly awards from the NCHC.
The Mavericks return to conference play with a series at No. 3/4 Denver on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 11-12. Friday's game will be shown live on CBS Sports Network.
