Seawolves Rally To Tie Mavericks, 3-3

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Sophomore Tyler Weiss scored twice and the Omaha hockey team built three one-goal leads, but Alaska Anchorage came back to forge a 3-3 tie on Friday in the finale of their weekend series.
The Mavericks, who went 1-0-1 against the Seawolves after a 4-3 win on Thursday, also got a goal from Zach Jordan. They improve to 4-1-1 on the season while UAA is now 1-4-1.
The Mavericks struck first just 52 seconds into the game. Jordan pounced on the rebound of a shot by Brandon Scanlin and fired home his team-leading fourth goal of the season.
UAA got a power play later in the game and tied it when Rylee St. Onge scored off a one-timer at 14:56.
Omaha retook the lead on a power play early in the second period. Weiss fired home his first goal of the season off a pass from Scanlin at 7:08.
But the Seawolves countered during UNO's third power play of the game. Alex Frye scored off a breakaway to make it 2-2 less than two minutes after Weiss had given UNO the lead. It was the Mavericks' first shorthanded goal allowed this season.
But Weiss put on a remarkable display of stickhandling to put the Mavericks back in front. He weaved down the right wing and lifted a shot over the shoulder of goaltender Kris Carlson for an unassisted goal at 12:52.
The back-and-fourth continued in the third with UAA tying the game at 12:59 when Tanner Schachle scored on the power play.
Both Isaiah Saville of UNO and UAA's Carlson were steady down the stretch and in overtime to preserve the deadlock. Saville had a game high 31 saves while Carlson stopped 24.
The Mavericks return home to host No. 7 Wisconsin on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 8-9.

- Weiss became the second Maverick to register a multiple-goal game, following Zach Jordan who did so against Alabama Huntsville on Oct. 12.
- UAA outshot the Mavericks, 34-27. It was just the second time the Mavericks have been outshot this season.
- The Mavericks had their eight-game win streak against the Seawolves snapped, but they're now unbeaten in the last nine games head-to-head (8-0-1).
- The Mavericks improved to 9-2-2 against UAA including a mark of 4-1-2 in Anchorage.
