COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The NCHC announced today that Omaha freshman defenseman Brandon Scanlin has been named the conference's Rookie of the Week, the first weekly honor of his career.
Scanlin tied for the team scoring lead with three points against Alaska Anchorage last week as the Mavericks won and tied on the road. In Thursday's series opener, Scanlin scored his first career goal as the Mavericks won, 4-3. He finished with two shots on goal.
In Friday's series finale, Scanlin had two assists with two more shots and a +1 rating as the Mavericks tied the Seawolves, 3-3.
The native of Hamilton, Ontario already has six points this season, putting him second among NCHC rookies and tied for second among NCHC defensemen. He has registered at least one point in five of Omaha's first six games.
The No. 20 Mavericks are back home this weekend, hosting No. 12 Wisconsin on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 8-9.
