Softball Splits During Day Two of Red & Black Showcase

ATHENS, Ga. ā The Omaha softball team bounced back from a shutout for its first victory of the 2019 season on Saturday at the 10th Annual Red & Black Showcase. Ā The Mavericks picked up a come from behind 5-2 win over Buffalo just hours after they fell 16-0 to No. 9 Georgia.
Omaha moved to 1-8 with the Saturday split.
Omaha 5, Buffalo 2
Alexa Sedlak recorded three RBI during the second game of the day to spark the come-from-behind victory against the Bulls.
Buffalo struck first on RBI singles by Alexis Matheny and Anna Aguon in the top of the third to give the Bulls a 2-0 lead.
Omaha answered in the bottom half of the frame. Ā Natalie Mostek led off with a single and then stole second. Ā Hailey Bartz singled to center to drive home Mostek and cut the lead to 2-1.
Buffalo starter Lace Smith retired the first two batters of the inning on ground balls. Lauren Lauvetz and Janae Cameron hit back-to-back singles to chase Smith from the game. Ā Mostek reached on an infield hit that drove in Lauvetz to tie the game. Ā Sedlak than lofted a 1-1 offering over the left field wall to clear the bases and give Omaha the walk-off victory.
Sedlak finished the game 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI. Ā Mostek went 2-for-3, scored two runs and drove in one. Ā Bartz went 1-for-3 with an RBI, while Lauvetz finished 1-for-3 with a run scored.
Ryanne Millington (1-3) threw 101 pitches to pick up her first collegiate win. Ā Millington allowed two runs on seven hits and two walks with two strikeouts.

In Saturday's opener, Omaha fell 16-0 to nationally rated Georgia in five innings. Ā The Bulldog's Lauren Mathis (2-0) allowed only one hit and four walks in 3.0 innings of work. Ā Amanda Ablan pitched the final 2.0 innings allowing two hits and a walk. Ā
Halley Jones (0-2) took the loss for Omaha. Ā Jones allowed 10 runs (one earned) on five hits and four walks in 1.0 innings of work. Ā Sydney Hampton threw 2.2 innings and allowed six runs (four earned) on seven hits and a walk with two strikeouts.
Savannah Fisher, Lauren Lauvetz and Alexa Sedlak each singled for the Mavericks.
