Ward Completes Rookie of the Week Trifecta

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Omaha hockey freshman Taylor Ward has been named the NCHC Rookie of the Week for the third time this season. He's the first player to earn the freshman award three times this season.
Ward put up four points to tie for second in team scoring during a split with No. 8 Western Michigan last weekend. On Friday, Ward scored a power play goal on six shots and was even for the game in Omaha's 4-3 loss.
The next night, Ward tied for the team scoring lead with three points, all primary assists, and again finished even with one blocked shot in the Mavericks' 6-3 win.
By virtue of his four-point weekend, the native of Kelowna, British Columbia moved into a tie for first in scoring among NCHC rookies for all games played with 22 points. He is currently Omaha's top rookie scorer and ranks fourth overall.
The Mavericks are on the road this weekend, visiting Miami on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 8-9. Friday's game can be seen nationwide on CBS Sports Network.
