Longtime Assistant Coach Chris Gadsden Steps Down

OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha head coach Evan Porter announced today that longtime assistant coach Chris Gadsden is stepping down from his position to spend more time with family.
"I feel fortunate to have played for Coach Gadsden for four years and honored to have coached alongside him the past seven," said Porter. "I've never been around a humbler, intelligent and harder working person than Gaddy. He's the definition of a positive role model and I'm grateful for every moment spent with Coach G. The program will sincerely miss him and we wish him all the best as he starts this new chapter in his life."
With nearly 20 years of dedication to the Omaha baseball program, Gadsden helped the Mavericks to seven NCAA regional appearances, three NCC Championships and a fifth-place finish at the 2007 NCAA Division II College World Series. Following the program's jump to Division I in 2011-12, Gadsden assisted the program to a pair of Summit League regular season championships in 2013 and 2014.
Throughout his tenure, he coached three first-team, one second-team, two third-team and two honorable mention All-Americans from 2008-10. Gadsden also saw his players earn a total of 39 All-NCC, three NCC Most Valuable Player, four NCC Most Valuable Pitcher, 15 All-MIAA, 24 All-Summit and six CoSIDA Academic All-America awards.
"I am blessed to have been a part of a great university over the last 20 years," said Gadsden. "I appreciate the interactions and relationships with faculty and staff throughout the Omaha campus. I want to give my gratitude to the athletic department family for the opportunity to be involved with outstanding coaches, administrators, support staff and boosters, along with the student-athletes and their families. I look forward to the successes of Coach Porter's baseball program along with all the other sports within Maverick Athletics."
Prior joining UNO's baseball staff, Gadsden served as assistant athletic director at the University of Louisville, where he was an assistant coach for the Cardinals' program. His time at UL spanned from 1993-99. He was a four-year baseball letterman at Creighton from 1984-88 and was selected team captain as a senior.
