Saint Louis, Mo. – The Omaha softball team went 0-2 at the Billiken Spring Tournament on Friday afternoon. The Mavericks dropped the opener 2-1 to Northern Illinois and then lost 7-2 to tournament host Saint Louis.

Northern Illinois 2, Omaha 1
Omaha jumped out to an early lead against Northern Illinois in the first game. In the top of the third, Hailey Bartz led off with a single up the middle and then stole second. The Huskies were able to get the next two batters out before Emma Dargy hit an RBI double to right center to put the Mavericks ahead 1-0.

Northern Illinois tied the game with a solo home run in the top of the fourth. Omaha put runners on first and second in the top of the sixth, but NIU got a double play to end the threat. The Huskies pushed across the winning run with a double down the left field line in the bottom of seventh.

Dargy led the Mavericks are the plate with a 1-for-2 effort with a double and an RBI. Bartz went 1-for-2 with a run scored and a stolen base. Emily Klosterman finished 1-for-3.

Halley Jones (0-4) allowed two runs on six hits and five walks with a pair of strikeouts in 6.1 innings of work.

Saint Louis 7, Omaha 2
Saint Louis broke through a fifth-inning tie as Omaha dropped a 7-2 decision in its second game of the afternoon.

The loss went to Rayanne Millington (1-8), who threw 5.0 innings and allowed seven runs (four earned) on 10 hits and two walks with three strikeout. Jones pitched the final inning allowing two walks and striking out two.

Alexa Sedlak finished 1-for-2 at the plate with a home run and two RBI. Alyssa DiFiore was 2-for-3 with a double, while Natalie Mostek added another 2-for-3 showing. Susan Rice was 1-for-3 with a double, and Dargy was 1-for-3 with a run scored.

Omaha got out to a quick lead in the top of the first with a pair of runs on three hits. Dargy led off the game with a single to center and advanced to second on a stolen base. Following a strikeout, Sedlak launched a two-run homer to left center for a 2-0 advantage.

Saint Louis tied the game in the bottom half of the frame, using a hit and an error to score a pair of runs. An error and two fielder's choice put runners on first and second with one out. Megan LoBianco hit a two-run double to right center to even the game at 2-2.

Both teams were held without another run until the bottom of the fifth when the Billikens added five runs on five hits and an error. Sadie Wise opened the inning with a single and moved to third on a throwing error. LoBianco lofted a sac fly to push across the go-ahead run. Kaylyn Breitbach added an immediate two-run homer. The next three Saint Louis batters reached. Kat Lane drove a two-run single up the middle, which brought the final tally to 7-2.

Omaha dropped to 2-20 overall, while the Billikens improved to 3-17.

Omaha continues play at the Billiken Spring Tournament with a pair of games on Saturday. The Mavericks open the day with Northern Colorado at 4:30 p.m., followed by a 6:30 date with Southeast Missouri.
